Final Approach - Osprey
30 inches wide x 20 inches high
“Osprey are remarkable birds, not only because they survived DDT or that they will readily nest on manmade platforms within sight of homes, but I find them fascinating just to watch while they hunt. This hawk is so suited to fishing that it can just drop out of the sky, splash into the water, grab its meal and then use it huge wings that appear to be double-jointed to rise out of the water and take flight again. Once in the air, the osprey has one more aerial trick: positioning a live thrashing fish in the most aerodynamic position for the flight back to its nest. The first time I saw this was amazing; with one foot forward and one back, it looked like the osprey was actually surfing in the sky.”
